Southern by birth, basic and fundamental music, vocabulary and morals, Christofer “C-Money” Welter was made to be a musician. Best known for his work in John Brown’s Body where he played the keys and trumpet, and his work as the keyboardist and trumpet player for Slightly Stoopid, one of the most notable, top reggae bands to come out of Southern California since Sublime, C-Money is one of the most innovative, creative, and rising musicians in the business today. While in John Brown’s Body, C-Money recorded four full-length albums with the band, and toured with them for 8 years. The 8-person group quickly became one of the best-known artists in the modern reggae scene, winning the “Best World Music Act” at the 2001 Boston Music Awards and “Best Live Act” the next year. In 2006 he joined Slightly Stoopid, adding a dimension and element to the band that would take them to a whole new level. Slightly Stoopid grew to become one of the most successful independent artists of the decade, their album catalog sales topping the 700,000 mark and the group toured the most prestigious concert venues around the world. They went on to play some of the most notable music festivals in the country year after year including: Coachella, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, New Orleans Jazz Fest, and played sold out shows not only across the US but in Australia, Japan, Guam, Amsterdam, Portugal, Denmark, the UK, Germany, Holland, and The Dominican Republic. More recently the band released “Slightly Not Stoned Enough To Eat Breakfast Yet Stoopid” in 2008, played KROQ’s Acoustic Christmas and toured with Snoop Dogg in 2009, and in 2010 played at the Sundance Film Festival and on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Now, in 2010 C-Money is set to release his debut, full-length solo effort entitled “Family Business.” Produced and co-written by Craig Welsch aka Top Rankin (Slightly Stoopid, John Brown’s Body), “Family Business” showcases a diverse collection of songs from a wide range of artists including: G. Love, Kyle “Stoopid” McDonald of Slightly Stoopid, Elliot Martin of John Brown’s Body, Angelo Moore of Fishbone, Dre Gipson of Fishbone and Craig Akira of Pressure Cooker. The album, to be released by Young Cub Records digitally worldwide on April 20, 2010, creates a soundscape of reggae, hip-hop, jazz, funk, blues, and soul sounds. The first single off the record, “Arroz Con Pollo” features G Love and is set to hit radio spring 2010. C-Money has shared the stage with: John Brown’s Body, 10ft Ganja Plant, G Love, The Expendables, Rebelution, Slightly Stoopid, Aggrolites, Sly & Robbie, Inner Circle, Hassan Hakmoun, Burning Spear, The Itals, Justin Hinds, Easy Star All Stars, Gym Class Heroes, SOJA, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, and Snoop Dogg to name a few. He has also worked with various labels including: I-Town, Shanachie, Easy Star, ROIR, Philidelphonic, Stoopid Records, Young Cub Records and Skunk Records. C-Money says his goals for his solo effort are to convey emotion, make people dance, and show the diverse family of musicians that are part of Stoopid Records and Controlled Substance Sound Labs. “I hope the tunes give people something to sing with, and that the instruments take them to a deeper place.”
