A BRIEF, NON-ANNOTATED HISTORY
Hello, gentle reader. My name is P.J., and I play the ukulele. You may remember me from such bands as The Shake Ups, The Madeira, Mr. Muggles, Hipster Zero, Destination: Earth!, Film At Eleven, In Stitches, Mind Rift?, Larry & Rita's Boy, and Happy & Plaid.
I'd been playing the guitar since the late 1980's, and in the mid-90's picked up a ukulele for the first time while vacationing in Hawaii. Soon after, I got one of my own, started writing songs on it, and covering songs by both artists I admired (They Might Be Giants, Leonard Nimoy, King Missile, the Dead Milkmen) and some that I didn't (Poison, Bon Jovi).
I released my debut cd UKE-A-HOLICS UNANIMOUS on Gelatinous Productions in October of 2006. It included such songs as "She's A Mystery," "Punk Rock Ukulelist," "Joss Whedon (Is My Master Now)" and "Let's Go! (Voltron Force!)," to name a few. I released a second album, KEEP ON ROCKIN' IN THE FLEA WORLD, a few months later, just prior to relocating from the Midwest to the west coast. In the Spring of 2008, I released my third album, UKES NOT NUKES.
I had what we in the biz call an 'internet hit' in early 2007 with my song "Joss Whedon (Is My Master Now)." Someone from Joss Whedon's official fansite, Whedonesque, took a liking to the song, and it subsequently racked up thousands of plays. (Watch Whedon's new show, Dollhouse, Fridays on FOX!) I have also received attention for my tribute to Battlestar Galactica, "Number Six," and my tribute to Heroes, "We Could Be Heroes." The latter song and it's accompanying album were featured in a promotional giveaway by the show's official fanclub, which was quite an honor.
People ask me if it's okay to laugh when they hear me play, which personally I think is kind of a weird question. If you have the urge to laugh, then my god man, by all means don't keep it buried inside! Who am I to stifle your inner chuckles? In any case, I write and play songs because I enjoy it, and it amuses me. My hope is that it will entertain you and your friends as well. What I do isn't for everyone. but it might be for you!
