Pinnawela was born on the 12th of September 1985, in Bródno district- Warsaw. She spent some of her childhood years, by migrating from one flat to another with her sister Natalia. The parents, although heavily preoccupied with work, were doing their best to provide the girls with the best conditions for self development. School of music, listening to jazz, painting and various workshops were only some of them. Paulina had spent 10 years playing the cello. She also used to sing in the school choir, play in an orchestra, and perform with her sister in clubs after dark. "I usually used to sleep over first two classes, or due to the lack of homework I haven't been going at all". In high school she started her career in the band called Sistars (members: the sisters, Bartek Królik, Marek Piotrowski, Marcin Ulanowski i Przemek Macio--ek), which turned out to be a breakthrough in the Polish music industry. It was the first Polish band ever, so successful at playing music which combined hip-hop, r&b, soul, funk and some Slavonic note as well. The band was appreciated with the: MTV EUROPEAN MUSIC AWARDS for BEST POLISH ACT twice (Rome and Lisbon), the Fryderyk (the prestigious Polish music industry award) fivefold. All possible awards at the Festival of Polish Song in Opole (First Prize, the Media Prize, the Audience Prize), Top Trendy festival in Sopot- winner, multiple Radio stations awards, The Elle magazine award, The Award of Empik Megastore twice in a row, multiple awards of the Polish press. The band had spent over two years touring, having played more than 400 concerts in Poland and abroad. They were supporting superstars such as: Erykah Badu, Macy Gray, Cypress Hill, Snoop Dogg, Pink. In September 2006 the band suspended their activity. " There were many strong, influential and creative units in the band. It was a truly exquisite constellation, something very special. However, I started feeling too young to face such a big number of compromises one had to make when being in a band". Nonetheless, at the age of 20 Paulina was already an experienced artist and her over-creativity urged her to create a solo project. Pinnawela is her new incarnation. She composed the music, wrote the lyrics, and together with Jacek Antosik (a sound engineer), produced the album "Soulahili"( Coming up in February 2008). " Soulahili is our offspring, spawned with no compromises. It has been made in our home recording studio out of love for life and music, at a clear state of mind". Musicians featured on the record are: Michal Grott (bass), Radek Macinski (drums), Jose Manuel Alban Juarez (drums and percussion), Dj Twister (turntables), Piotr Zabrodzki (piano, rhodes, hammond, moog), Przemek Maciolek (guitar), supersonic quartett (strings), son de cuba. Also a special appearance by Pinnawela s sister Natalia along with Anna Karwan- a good friend of theirs. The album is going to be launched by Paulina and Jacek s label PENGUIN RECORDS, making it also a publishing debut for both of them.
