Album review - from Collective-zine

These guys have been knocking around for a good few years now, and I believe this is their first full length. "Sinking Ships & Tallest Towers" is a solid, bouncy indie / emo record, clearly taking cues from the likes of Spy vs Spy. You have the typical elements - guitars sway back and forth, vocals are off-key, guys in the background yelp in time honoured Broachian fashion, and all is well with the world. PPW don't introduce anything new to the genre, relying on the familiar sounds, the bounciness, the softer twinkly parts, and the jazzy / mathy flavour that bands of this kind inject for variation. You and I have both heard this kind of thing done plenty of times, we have heard it done better, yet we have also heard it done far worse. I am generally going to enjoy any band that plays this kind of music well, and although I would prefer perhaps a little more poppiness over mathiness in the sound, this is still a good listen. Currently there seems to be a few other bands around trying this kind of thing, yet they seem to completely miss the point, it should sound a bit messy, youthful and DIY, not polished, well produced and profressional. So if you wish that UK bands that attempted this sound post Spy vs Spy such as the Green Acre or Itch had hung around to make more music, then you should pick this album up straight away.
