Tuesday night’s game against the Giants was played before a crowd of 48,887 who came to see both their surging Mets and six New York Jets heroes of yesteryear. Jets Game Night was originally scheduled for Monday, April 28, but the game was cancelled due to inclement weather, so before last night’s game, six one-time New York Jets were introduced to the crowd on what was promoted as Jets Night At Shea: Jets Pro Bowler Wesley Walker, Marty Lyons, Jets Linebacker Gregg Buttle and Super Bowl Champions Emerson Boozer, Randy Beverly and John Schmitt. Boozer, Beverly and Schmitt unveiled the countdown for remaining home games at Shea Stadium, while Lyons, Buttle and Walker each threw out a ceremonial first pitch to Mets players. An added attraction was Mets starter Mike Pelfrey being named as Mets Sharp Pitcher of the Month for June. Pelfrey went 3-0 with a 3.52 ERA in five starts. In 30.2 innings he racked up 19 strikeouts as the Mets went 4-1 in games he started.
