Phene

Zach Richards (born October 22, 1985), who records under the stage name Phene, is an American hip-hop artist born in Mission Viejo, CA. At the tender age of two, his parents parted ways forcing him and his mother to relocate to York, PA. During his childhood years, Phene found his first love on the basketball court winning awards around the city. Even when landlords were evicting the family from apartment to apartment, the local basketball courts provided a feeling of being at home. As the years passed, Phene channeled his frustrations & questions about life into writing music. In high school, the buzz began to build from street battles & lunch room ciphers. He was awarded Most Musical of his graduating class, yet never played an instrument. A small city kid with big city dreams.
A transplant who has lived on both coasts and now calls Atlanta home, he used the vast experiences he gained growing up in this world to become one of the premier freshman in his class.
Why the name Phene? To keep it simple, “Music brewed an addiction. An undeniable urge to play a part within the hip-hop community, & spread wisdom through real life messages."
Over the past three years, Phene has torched the Central PA Hip Hop Awards for five trophies (including Best Male Artist & Best Mixtape) while being nominated 13 times. Already under his belt are seven solo mix projects and over 400 mixtape appearances. Tours and live shows have contributed to the success, performing up and down the East Coast beside artists like Lloyd, Cassidy, more. In September of 2010, Phene was featured on Angela Yee's Morning Show on SHADE 45 (Sirius Radio), where callers rated his single "I Want The World" a perfect 5 out of 5!
