You may or may not know Pete Northcote……but you certainly have heard him!

WINNER OF THE 2007 MUSICOZ “BEST INSTRUMENTALIST” AWARD.
Arguably the most recorded guitarist in Australian history, IN PETE NORTHCOTE’S SPACE…NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU SCREAM!
Turn on the TV and he plays on 90% of the ads you see and hear.
Pick your favourite show and there’s a good chance he’s played guitar or written the music.
As an aspiring musician, Pete started doing session work in 1985. He was told by many other session musicians “you’ll get 2 to 4 good years as a session musician”.
Well that was 1985 and he is still the busiest session musician in Australia today.
Being 1st call for jingles, Pete has played on just about every KFC, McDonald’s and Telstra ad since the mid ‘80s.
Having 12 Library/Production albums under his wing, his compositions have had a regular spot on Oprah, Dr Phil, and every sporting and lifestyle program known to man.
As for record dates, Pete has recorded with Anthony Callea, Australian Idol cast albums, Bob Downe, Daryl Braithwaite, Doc Neeson, Dragon, Grace Knight, Guy Sebastian, Hi5, Human Nature, Jenny Morris, Jimmy Barnes, Julie Anthony, Marcia Hines, Margaret Urlich, Marc Hunter, Neil Murray, Paul Kelly, Shannon Noll, Sharon O'Neill, Simon Philips and Yothu Yindi to name but a few!
Pete has performed and toured with international acts: ELTON JOHN, CHER, SHANIA TWAIN, BILLY JOEL, THE MONKEYS, ROD STEWART, BO DIDDLY and TOM JONES.
His 1st solo album “CONDITIONS APPLY” won critical acclaim from Virtuoso Guitarist STEVE VAI (David Lee Roth, Frank Zappa, Whitesnake) and after only one packed house performance at Sydney’s “BASEMENT”, CONDITIONS APPLY is now in its second printing.
His new album “POINDEXTER AND THE GENIUS SEX ACT” is a concept album with a difference. Borne out of the quagmire of Pete’s eclectic but focused imagination, this album is a major turning point in his already expansive career. “More like a pantomime than a gig”, Pete performs the entire album as it is on the disc complete with a running monologue and a few props and surprises thrown in for good measure.
Although somewhat virtuosic, Pete’s music is not your typical ‘widdly widdly’ guitar instrumental. Nor is it the same blues licks you’ve heard guitarists emulate since Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn.
Accessible, melodic, fun and fresh. exciting, assaulting and emotional. The POINDEXTER album will have you tapping into some deep emotional, spiritual and sensual areas of your being whilst at times have you giggling inside at some more than familiar circumstances.
Pete is still happy to make other people famous but his live shows will have you wondering why he hadn’t done this sooner.
“Wow!

Last night I saw the best guitarist in Australia, Peter Northcote. It was at his Album Launch at the Basement. Packed to the rafters by an amazed crowd. Peter possesses the ability to take an audience to another level of musical experience. Just like you must go to the Easter Show before you die, you also must see Peter Northcote in concert!”

PETE NORTHCOTE WINNER OF THE 2007 MUSICOZ BEST INSTRUMENTAL AWARD

"I started playing at age 9. I took lessons for 6mths and at the same took tennis lessons. I was eventually told by my parents to choose one or the other. I took guitar, my brother (Tony) took tennis.
I kept playing and eventually went to Brandmans Music Studios in Rockdale where I began lessons with Vince Lombardo, who was ultimately the most important influence in my career. He introduced me to many styles of music and ever got me as a Junior Teacher. I used to win "Best Guitar Student" there every year. (It must have been the cakes my mum made for them)!
Throughout high school, I started playing in bands and then wedding receptions, (mostly as a bass player). After leaving school I worked in many music shops as a teacher, while constantly playing in cover bands and reception bands. It snowballed from there. One thing led to another and I started working in touring bands like Richard Clapton, Dragon, Darryl Braithwaite, Rick Price, Margaret Urlich, The Monkeys Tom Jones, Shania Twain, The Bushwakers, Bo Diddly, Ross Wilson, Stevie Wright, Angry Anderson and John Farhnam etc etc.
In '86, I started doing sessions. I continue to do them today simply because I love the total focus and it allows me to be creative every day. Some of the artists i have recorded for are: Anthony Callea, Australian Idol cast albums, Bob Down, Danielle Spencer, Daryl Braithwaite, Doc Neeson, Dragon, Grace Knight, Guy Sebastian, Hi5, Human Nature, Jenny Morris, Jimmy Barnes, John Schuman, Julie Anthony, Louise Perryman, Margaret Urlich, Mark Hunter, Max Sharam, Neil Murray, Paul Kelly, Peter Coombe, Shanon Noll, Sharon O'Neil, Simon Philips, Yothu Yindi. I love playing live and I know I'll never stop doing gigs. I so enjoy the small pub gigs I do. I get to play my butt off. And thats what its all about!
My influences are as diverse as my styles. From Hendrix to all the "Steves" (Via, Luke, Morse, Hackett, Howe, etc) Zappa, Landau, Nuno."
I continue to do sessions. I write record and produce a few selected acts at my studio (pictures in the photo section or at www.peternorthcote.com) and have a residency at the BRIDGE HOTEL in Rozelle every Sunday at 3.30 to 7pm. It's an amazing band that rocks hard and we just LOVE the gig. Hope to see you at one soon. Please come and say Hi.
Pete
