Though a standard death/thrash band for much of their career, Pestilence rose to near Cynic levels by the time of their fourth album Spheres, incorporating jazz/fusion influences and technical songwriting to a death metal base. The band disbanded shortly afterwards -- an interview with guitarist Patrick Mameli implied that the band tired of the metal scene and the members wanted to pursue other musical interests.
