Paul Walker first started djing at the age of 14 by using two tape recorders to make his own hilarious radio show(one to play the music and one to record the talking and the music, stupid!).After one inspired mix of Men at Work "Land down under" into "Oposites Attract"by Paula Abdul and the cartoon cat he had a zen like experience and decided that gettin paid for playing others music was far easier than learning to play yourself.Next came a stint at RADIO SKEEBA, a underground, offshore and covert cutting edge music factory disguised as a normal hospital radio station in East Leeds where he often fabricated requests replacing Harry Seacombe with the latest tune from Pop will eat Itself or Gary Numan.Paul was also part of the now legendary Hospital Radio Monday Night Bingo and Magic(!!)show and met some real characters on the team including, in no particular order,a nymphomaniac,a serial bullshitter,a girl with the surname"Hyman" and a nightclub dj.This club dj took Paul under his wing and even let him get into Wakefields No1 nitespot,Rooftop Gardens, for nowt and underage, top buzz!,as well as passing on his pearls of wisdom and advice regarding the alleged art of djing. After being at the cutting edge of hospital radio for a few years culminating in a charity bed push he decided to get a job at Way Ahead Records which was part of the first wave of specialised, more niche, record shops in Leeds and this is where the vinyl collection started growing through fair means or foul.Nothing gave Way Ahead greater pleasure than selling or keeping rival shops cd's or records which had been delivered to us by mistake or superglueing their locks just before a launch of a big album or being threaterned to get "filled in",but unfortunatley all good things must pass but not without a strange quirk of fate. The shop manager had blagged a dj spot at the now defunct Music Factory(Break for the Border youngsters!) but at the last minute dropped out leaving either Paul or Miles to step into the breach. As Miles was a commited indie kid and said he was"gouging his eyes out"that night it was up to Mr Walker to give the kids the repetative beats they desired. The gig went well and he was part of the infamous "Bash street" set up for a few years before setting up a night with fellow contributor Paul "DR DUST"Hodginson at what is now the High fi club in Leeds.Again eclectisim was the music policy and this,i suppose, has become a recuring theme throughout his musical development that good music comes in all shapes and sizes. After three happy years of getting pissed on a Wednesdayand snogging girls with tippex flowers on thier boots it was off to Norman Bar for a residency which is still happening as this Biog is being written.Again the music policy is pretty wide ranging just don't ask for Usher or "summat good" or lie that it is your Birthday or do the lame scratching move with ya hand over n over again.Paul has also been lucky enuff to have some talented friends who he can reley on for good advice and stop himself taking things too seriously when he dissapears up his own ass for a while.A couple of releases on Player Records and Wax Lyrical with his good friend Wilko (aka the good looking but least talented of Ignition Technician)have wetted the whistle for future releases but priority at the moment is to retake his Maths GCSE and pass the theory side of the cycle proficiency test.Paul is currently residing in Leeds with his dog,Sparky, and has been teaching Dj Skills and Contextual Studies for four years at Access to Music in York and enjoys long romantic walks on the beach, horror films and cross stiching.
