John Byrne Patrick’s Head

Patrick’s Head was formed when two singer-songwriters, John Byrne and Patrick Mansfield, decided to combine their talents and create an innovative new sound which combined punk, folk, and rock. This partnership yielded five CDs, three of original music and two of Irish folk songs, between 2003 and 2008. During these years the band was roundly praised in the press for its sparkling live shows and innovative sound. AmericanaUK described the sound as “An astonishing alchemy of American country, blues and Irish folk songs - introspective songs of love and heartache, telling of experiences and journeys….”

Their sound and their CDs were praised in numerous other press outlets throughout the country. Patrick’s Head played a series of sold out shows at The World Café and Tin Angel along with many of Philadelphia’s premier live acoustic venues. They’ve also opened up for many national acts such as The Hothouse Flowers, The Young Dubliners, Ian Gillan (of Deep Purple), Tempest, Gaelic Storm, Ceann, Ceili Rain, The Screaming Orphans, Black 47 and are frequently featured on WXPN and local College Radio.

John has recently teamed up with producer and Patrick’s Head guitarist Andrew Keenan, along with Engineer/ songwriter Devin Greenwood to record a new album, John’s first solo album since 2001. The CD contains 11 new John Byrne songs and features some of Philly’s finest musicians. A release date is set for late summer 2009.

“Straight up contemporary Celtic folk……fantastic” – Marc Gunn

“Vocals delivered with the utmost sincerity and music that follows suit” - Catherine L. Tully - Celtic MP3s Music Magazine

“Folk music, all the way through, and at its very best……traditional and modern songs, each one as amazing as the one before. I tell you frankly that I wept salty tears, brought on by both the subject matter of the lyrics and the intensity of the delivery.” Album Review 2008 – Celtophilia.com
