1993

Paramaecium releases their debut album "Exhumed of the Earth". The music inspired by Cathedral, early MDB and Anathema was groundbreaking in the Australian scene with the album selling in excess of 12,000 copies so far through various record license deals in Europe and the US. At this stage the band consists of Andrew Tompkins on vocals and bass, Jason De Ron on guitar, and Jayson Sherlock on drums. The bands sound is defined by its use of flute and violin and soprano alongside the usual musical offerings of death metal.

1996

Paramaecium has added a rhythm guitarist (Chris Burton) and releases their follow up album "Within the Ancient Forest" along with an accompanying fantasy novel of the same name written by vocalist Andrew Tompkins. The music is more diverse and technical and involves many more female vocalists, harpsichord, piano, flute and cello.

1999

The third album saw the departure of all previous members except vocalist Andrew Tompkins who flew to the UK to recruit Ian Arkley (from Seventh Angel/Ashen Mortality/My Silent Wake) for a guest guitar spot. The two worked well together in crafting a very unique and haunting album. Ian flew out to record the album a few months later to record the third Paramaecium album "A Time to Mourn".

2005

After a six year break, Paramaecium was back stronger than ever with another story based album. Again the music used violins and soprano but held firmly to its doom death metal tradition with an album called "Echoes from the Ground".

2006

In 2006 Andrew is working once again with Jason De Ron on songwriting and the album which is emerging thus far is like nothing else which has been heard from Paramaecium in the past. Also, Jayson Sherlock has rejoined the band thus reinstating the original Exhumed lineup and the band are planning some shows this year in Australia and Europe.
