Oshiego is an upcoming Death/Thrash Metal unit from Singapore that was conceived in 2004. The current line-up ov Oshiego consists ov Umar (Vocals), Kadir (Guitars and Back up vocals), Fauzt (Drums), Ridhuan (Bass), Morgan (Guitars)
Oshiego takes heavy musical influences from notable bands such as Kreator, Behemoth, Melechesh and Grave, as well as incorporating Middle Eastern touches into their songs. Lyrically-driven by subjects involving war, the inevitable struggles of life and vampirism (in accordance to The Legacy Of Kain), Oshiego is determined to thrash and destroy
In a local band competition (Overdrive 2005) held at Club Momo, Oshiego came in as the First Runner-up ahead of the 25 bands that auditioned and performed, as well as receiving great appraisal from the judges. Oshiego has taken part in many local shows with great response from the crowd.
Oshiego entered Snakeweed Studios in mid-2006 to record their debut EP, "Now Suffer", with acclaimed engineer Leonard Soosay, who has worked with high-profile metal bands such as Impiety and Rudra. "Now Suffer" was released in late 2006 with great response.
Quoting from a review by Metalstorm.ee:
"They have good compositions, their musicians are good (really), their music is accessible without being commercial. it's tiptop. If you like brutal music or if you just like melodic aspects in Death Metal, remember this name my friends, Oshiego is for sure a good newcomer."
The latest release by Oshiego was an EP titled Unending Carnage in 2009. Favourable reviews were garnered by this release from reviewers of Sea of Tranquility, Metal Team UK and Castle of Vampiria (Spanish). This release consisted of two new songs (also recorded by Leonard Soosay at Snakeweed studios) and the four songs from the "Now Suffer" demo, all mastered by Michael Kalember (Absence Of The Sacred).
In 2008, the band parted ways with original bassist Sean Harrison, bringing Ridhuan Syah on board. His abilities with the bass guitar brought a whole new technical dimension to the Music. In 2009, looking to expand it's sonic capabilities, Morgan was recruited into the ranks of Oshiego, lending Oshiego the added power of a second guitar.
In late 2009, work commenced on Oshiego's debut full-length album, Woe To The Conquered. Again, it was recorded by Leonard Soosay at Snakeweed studios. The completed work was sent to Hertz Studios in Poland to be mastered, who morphed the already brutal recording into a relentless assault, poised to strike at the hearts of the unbelievers.
In early 2010, Oshiego's long time drummer Vijesh parted ways with the band due to musical differences and Fauzt (former Impiety) was brought in to fill his position. Fauzt's drumming escalates the offensive and brings Oshiego to a whole new level of unabated aggression.
Oshiego went on a hiatus from live shows from May 2009, but returned with a vengeance to bring the crushing tones of their music to the masses from the live stage yet again in 2010, with a gig which was aptly named, Now Suffer. The resounding response to the gig is reflected in a gig review, which described the closing act as follows: "The set for the night finally ended with local pharaohs Oshiego bringing down the house with the wall of death poised to portray their adulation." Clearly Oshiego's capacity to entertain an audience live has not been undermined by the months of silence.
After recording their first album, Woe To The Conquered, Umar swop places with Kadir to take over vocal duties as he suffers from a nerve injury.
Oshiego are currently looking for a suitable label to release their future full-length debut, and are still active in playing shows. Oshiego is contactable through myspace.com and through e-mail for label/show offers. Oshiego will not rest and will rise to decapitate the naysayers in their time ov triumph.
