Oscar Tharpe/Songwriter

Oscar Tharpe was born in the hills of West Virginia. He has been working hard putting songs together for many years. Oscar has several CD’s available with his original songs. The first CD with Oscar Tharpe original works was “Worked Down in The Mines” and then “American Soldier”. Oscar enjoyed working with Jim O’Dell these projects. Oscar was a coal miner for many years and the title cut on “Worked Down in The Mines” tells about the life of coalminer and you will also find the song “When your Work is Done” on this CD. This is a very moving and spiritual song. “American Soldier” is about the life of our soldiers fighting for our freedom in a foreign land. Also there are a lot of fun songs on this CD like “14 Days and 900 Mile Run” about a trip in an old motor home and “Down The Barn”. “Proud American” speaks for itself and the song “A Nickel More Than I Can Spend” can be for anyone, wouldn’t we are like just a nickel more than we could spend. That brings us to Oscar’s latest release “When The Dogwood Blooms Again”. The title cut takes you from young love to one on a walker and the other on a cane. And we can forget “Joe The Plumber” which was original called “With A Pipe Wrench In My Hand” which tells of the state of our economy. Oscar has included several gospel songs on this CD like “The Gates Of Hell”, “Tear Drops Fallin” and “Thank You Lord”. Oscar would like to thank CornerStone Recording for helping with “When The Dogwood Blooms Again” CD . Many of Oscar fans keep asking for a gospel CD of songs, so Oscar put together “The Gate Of Hell” . “The Gates Of Hell” contains gospel songs off of the other CD’s and he’s latest song “When The Earth Trembles” which Oscar has received many comments that it is a sermon in itself. All Oscar’s CD’s are available at WWKO 1480 Am Radio Station. Oscar also has songbooks available for each of the CD’s. All of Oscar’s works are Copyrighted in the Library of Congress and Oscar is a member of ASCAP as a songwriter and a publisher.
