What do you normally get after a hit of OPM? A huge rush to the head? The one in your trousers of course, a feeling of invincibility or that same old feeling when you wake up next to a crack whore without your pants & wallet, knowing you have definitely been done up the council grittier without any KY whatsoever, I know, the ultimate high we endeavor to look for in everything we do. Well, without resorting to the above or any lubrication whatsoever, I present to you the ultimate high, ‘Golden State Of Mind’ released on Suburban Noize records August 19, 2008…please read on.

Ok, so the So Cal (Southern California to the uninitiated) 22 K diamond dudes are back to rock your world, and any other interstellular galaxies that haven’t succumbed to the OPM sound. Yes, we all know the huge success the band had with ‘Heaven/Halfpipe’, huge radio airplay from their debut album, and combine sales with their two following full-length albums at over a million. But that means as much as Bush apologizing for Iran, Iraq, Vietnam, Bay of Pigs & Cuba… That was then, but my friends, chums, assembled geezers & ladies, this is definitely now…. let me enlighten you….’We’ve only just begun,’ (copyright Karen Carpenter Inc).

So what do the 5 rods of core plutonium have for us? Well, probably the most diverse, & at the same time, immediately accessible album to date. While there still is the core sound, still rooted in the Californian lifestyle, this little ditty is so, so, much more, yeah, sure there is the ‘OPM Sound’, but it has moved forward in leaps & bounds at a scary pace, the likes of which we have only seen when Gary Glitter was arrested at P.C. World …”Honestly Officer they’re holiday pictures of my 2,500 nieces…honest!!”

Featuring guest appearances by reggae legend Pato Banton, Sen Dog (Cypress Hill), Johnny Richter (Kottonmouth Kings), Big B, Dirtball, Jim Perkins (Dumbluck), Jamie Allensworth, Kevin (The B-side Players), & Dj Product of (Hed pe), this body of work picks up where ‘California Poppy’ left off & then some. While the band may not be your average singles band…come on, they’re not ‘New Kids On The Block’, or maybe the guys who smoke the block??!…Their album is loaded with singles; stand out tracks like, ‘Runaway’, which has a classic punk rock edge, reminiscent of The Clash, to ‘Dirty White’ which has a dirty hook & bass line to match Miss Hilton’s soiled underwear, & a loop which socks you squarely in the solar plexus. Both tracks mixed by Michael Patterson who has worked with Beck, Biggie, B.R.M.C and She Wants Revenge. Songs like ‘Feel the vibration’ and ‘Square Peg’ have the old school OPM sound, awesome lyrics & a good time feel-much like the surfing songs of the Beach Boys, such is the newer, leaner, definitive sound. Make no mistake, this album is tighter than the Pope’s ring-piece, the attention to detail of lyrics & harmonies has to be listened to, to be believed…. With this many singles they might even rival Michael Jackson, without the kiddy fiddling & bedtime stories!

They recorded in their hometown Los Angeles, produced by Andrew Nast and Jim Perkins at J&A’s studio. If Clinton thought that honing his sexual antics was using a cigar, then these guys are using a John Holmes’s amount of virgin leaves to make a sword of doom, the likes of which you ain’t ever seen, ok, not counting the new DVD from Ron Jeremy, Volume 3. With songs like these I would even go as far to say that if Mr. Marley was still with us he would give this his seal of approval…through a haze of ganja smoke, of course!

What else is there to look forward to in the summer? Fat birds trying to look thinner in their sister’s bikini? Not even a decent camping trip, coz you know for a fact that it’s going to rain cats & dogs…You step in a poodle & find a sausage dog in your trousers…. Please, I could go on… So, disregard the weather which changes more than Hilary Clinton’s panties & policies, make way for the August release when “GOLDEN STATE OF MIND” finally drops and finally put OPM at the top of their game.

Billy Idol, American Idol, who is idle? Certainly not these 24 carat diamonds, Mr. Cowell it’s time to pull up those trousers…oh, you have? My friends, Romans, countrymen, gays, you have been warned; you are about to have the summer of a lifetime, (to rival the one when you had your first blow job) and the album that will define it for the rest of your life….Enjoy!
