Ophir

Ophir features Matthew DeMeritt and session vocalist Holly Lindin. The duo mixes the bit-crushed Nintendo tones of Tetris and Zelda, the dark riffs and rhythms of vintage Juno Reactor, and the syncopated shimmer of New Jack-era Mary J. Blige. While tipping her hat to vocal idols Sarah Brightman and Celine Dion, Lindin pays equal homage to the forlorn lilt of indie goddesses Emily Haines and Kate Havnevik. Lindin's vocal arrangements are so dense as to deserve acapella treatment, which also makes them fertile material for club remixes. DeMeritt's obsession with songcrafting legends Poe and Kevin Gilbert adds even more depth to Ophir's music, steering it in unpredictable directions.
