Early Life
J.R. Dumlao, known as his stage name Yung Rizzo, is a Filipino-American who was born in San Jose, California, the son of Jose & Marilou Dumlao. Many of his relatives live in Hawaii, where he spent most of his vacations when school was not in session. His nickname which would eventually become his stage name was given to him by his varsity basketball coach, Creighton Lane.
Rizzo attended San Jose State University where he received a BA degree in Sociology in December 2009. During his college years, he volunteered at an after-school program tutoring elementary school kids.
Early Beginnings
In Early 2009, Rizzo released his first mixtape "2 Weeks Notice". It was made available via his official website and DatPiff.com. Later, he released "Let Go" a single from the mixtape, spawning the single "Let Go" for radio play at local college radio stations. At this time he started gaining fans and recognition locally as well as in his second home in Hawaii. In April 2009, he was given opportunities that arose to touring various clubs later that Summer from California to Hawaii.
In 2011, the music video "Let Go" was shot and later featured on one of the biggest Hip-Hop online websites, www.worldstarhiphop.com (WSHH).
Rizzo is not only a recording artist but also a songwriter and producer. With his versatility he is able to reach out to a variety of genres and is one of fastest rising Asian-American hip hop artists to date (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinoy_hip_hop). Rizzo has paved his way through the music industry in the US, and South Pacific Asia. He has collaborated with artists such as hip hop's own The Jacka, Mistah Fab, and more.
November 2011, Rizzo began to tour overseas in the Philippines and was special guest at many festivities. The Yung Rizzo Foundation has dedicated the recent sales of "Game Over" on itunes.com/yungrizzo towards charity by those affected by natural disasters. This announcement was aired on telivised network GMA7 as Yung Rizzo made a surprise appearance alongside with John Nite and Kuya Germs (German Moreno) in their show Walang Tulugan with Master Showman.
Back of My Mind (2012)
We plan to release another record as a charity album for those affected by recent natural disasters such as the Japan, Haiti, China, Chile Quake, and Philippines typhoon.
Yung Rizzo's debut album titled 'Back of My Mind', is a hip-hop record crafted in sequence musically and lyrically, and delves into his life experiences, introspective thoughts, touching on themes of materialism, education, motivation, life struggles, relationships, family, coming of age, and more. The production team behind the album are Ray Lacey out of San Jose,The Iklectix, and more. Tony Dawsey will be mastering the project. His work with artists such as DMX, Kid Rock, Methodman & Redman, Nine Inch Nails, Whitney Houston and Jay-Z has given Tony the reputation as being one of the most sought after mastering engineers in the music business.
