"Get Down" by G-$quad

Whenever someone is from a suburban city, most of the time, that individual is afraid to be true to themself - especially if that individual just so happens to rap. These type of people tend to act like they're from the hardest of areas in order to live up to their rap aspirations and end up killing their whole career and persona. Not G-$quad.

G-$quad has been staying true to themselves since May, 2004. After realizing that Garland, Texas needed to be represented as a well-known area in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex's hip-hop scene, rappers Stone and Big Mick combined their creative skills to form one of the best hip-hop talents to not only come out of "Da G" (Garland, TX), but the entire Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

The duo, both representing East Garland, Texas, first met each other in 6th grade at O'Banion Middle School, but they first encountered each other's skills at South Garland High School. Both were just local freestylers amongst many and didn't take rap serious due to their obligations in school. Stone had dreams of pursuing basketball and college, while Big Mick had intentions of completing school and making money. Stone went off to attend college at The University of Houston in Fall 2003 and came back home at the end of his first year of college with a great idea in mind. After delving into rap with other Dallas area students at UH, Stone saw that he could actually make it as a rapper and succeed in the music industry in some way. He knew that his voice on the microphone would go along great with the city-proclaimed "Freestyle King of Garland" in Big Mick. So, since both had a minor buzz in the city for their fantastic flow, Stone and Big Mick decided to join as G-$quad and started working on their first mixtape under G-$quad Ent.

In December, 2004, their first mixtape "It's All Throwed Vol. 1" gained alot of attention around Garland's hip-hop world. The Garland anthem "G-A-R-L-A-N-D" spread like a wildfire in the streets and on Myspace. People in Garland had never really had a anthem to follow and G-$quad had finally given the people something that they can claim as their own. G-$quad's metaphors really brought this mixtape to another level and set them apart from other rap talents in the city. So, when it was time to feed the streets once more, G-$quad grinded out another masterpiece of a mixtape with "It's All Throwed Vol. 2" in August 2006. This mixtape actually got re-released in July 2007 due to additions of new tracks that were buzzing in the streets. Stone and Big Mick gave fans a part of themselves when they released their own solo mixtapes so fans could get a good look of each half of G-$quad. Stone proved that he had the juice in Garland with his mixtape "You Got The Juice Now" (June 2007) and Big Mick expressed to the fans that his mojo was infinite with his mixtape "My Mojo's Back Like It Never Left." (February 2008)

G-$quad started pumping out numerous amounts of shows dating from January 2007 and hasn't stopped since then. After gaining even more recognition in and outside of Garland, G-$quad then started focusing on receiving club and radio play. After getting spins in Dallas area clubs, G-$quad hit the K104 radio air waves in October 2007 along with Mr. Showcase of Texas Trillest with their hit single "D-Town Boogie (PeeWee Herman)." After realizing that they would never prosper with an instructional dance song, G-$quad received a banging instrumental from their in-house producer LB and turned it into the smash hit "Watch Me Get It" in February 2008. "Watch Me Get It" raised G-$quad's stock in the Metroplex with even more club spins and show opportunities and the music video for the song made it that much better. This song received regular rotation on 89.3 KNON and is currently awaiting rotation from K104 and 97.9 The Beat.

Following the success of "Watch Me Get It," G-$quad released their anticipated album Tales From Da "G" on November 28, 2008. Tales From Da "G" has sold a number of units and is considered a classic in the Garland area. Because of this album, people look at G-$quad as heroes of the city as well as trendsetters.

G-$quad is currently preparing for their next album due to release in 2009 and has set off the 2009 year with their new song "Get Down." Due to their hard work ethic, "Get Down" has already received play on 89.3 KNON and in a number of Dallas area clubs and it's only been out since February 11, 2009.

So, it looks like G-$quad has been nothing but great so far in their careers and they didn't have to fake it the entire time. It goes to show that true talent will be recognized no matter how you look or where you're from. G-$quad has a very bright future ahead of them.
