Da Critic embodies the independent dream of creating ones own lane for success and with the entertainment business monopoly he has created the entertainment industry has no choice but to pay attention to the “West Coast Success Story.”
Born in Managua, Nicaragua but raised in San Francisco, CA, Roger Tiffer aka Da Critic (el Critico) was born into a family of self-starters and entrepreneurs. His mother raised him and his sister while juggling multiple jobs and her own business to put food on their table as well as pay for Da Critic’s piano lessons, which was one of his first introductions into the world of music. His Grandfather owns a Bakery that has long been a landmark in San Francisco’s Mission District, and his Uncle owns a chain of clothing stores that stretches across the Bay Area. Besides his own family Da Critic grew up in and around the Bay Area hip hop scene, which has long been credited with creating the independent music model that many other regions follow today and has allowed for artists to demand more money and control from major labels when releasing their projects. The independent spirit he grew up around rubbed off on Da Critic and although he began writing poetry and music at the age of twelve, Da Critic decided to focus most of his efforts on educating himself in all aspects of owning and running a business. It would not be until his High School years when a English teacher took notice of the amazing writing abilities he possessed that Da Critic would begin taking his writing seriously.
Although he would begin putting more focus into his writing and music Da Critic still kept the majority of his attention on his first passion, which was entrepreneurship and launched his own line of clothing stores called “Da G. Spot.” To pay for the initial start up costs of his shops Da Critic worked two to three jobs at a time and also began doing street promotions and marketing in his area for major companies and record labels. With three stores spread across the Bay Area, “Da G. Spot” quickly became known as the go to spot for new music and fashions and allowed for Da Critic to network with a number of artists from the Bay Area to Texas. Every week the stores would sell out of artist’s music and Da Critic quickly recognized that music could be his newest venture. As a student of business Da Critic began by working behind the scenes on other artists projects and surrounding himself with other artists who had already enjoyed success so that he could study what did and did not work for them. In 2006 on the advice of his current manager Ramzi “Ramshizzle” Abushaer Da Critic finally began to work on his own projects and combining all of the knowledge he had learned with his natural writing abilities Da Critic began to record his own music. Although he was in the studio consistently recording and practicing his craft Da Critic knew that the contacts he had made were as important to his success and he ensured that his presence was felt at each and every hot event that occurred in his area. Between his tireless recording and networking Da Critic was able to bridge the gap between his notoriety as an entrepreneur to one of an artist/entrepreneur.
Combining artistic abilities with the mind of a successful entrepreneur Da Critic is poised to continue building his monopoly of entertainment businesses. He is currently working on two highly anticipated solo albums and is gearing up to release the long awaited compilation “The Prequel.” The compilation will be released on Da Critic’s own “TruCorner Entertainment” record label and his solo albums have already gained attention from a number of major labels that Da Critic is currently in negotiations with for release. Even with these upcoming releases and running his own record label Da Critic still embodies the Entrepreneurial spirit he was raised with and plans on launching a new chain of clothing stores as well as entering the extremely profitable energy drink market with his own drink. Da Critic has arrived and has set his business sights on all aspects of the entertainment industry. Da Critic’s love for music and entrepreneurship has rubbed off on his family as well as his younger sister has begun pursuing a career in music as an artist. When asked of his plans for the future Da Critic responds; “The industry isn’t ready for the business monopoly I’m creating, either your going to get with us and get paid or your going to end up in the unemployment line, business and music is in my blood and if its not successful it’s not Da Critic.”
