Over the past few years, Virginia has been represented by many diverse styles of the hip-hop game from all parts of the state. Acts such as Timbaland, Missy Elliot, The Neptunes and The Incrediblez have all brought their flavor of hip-hop to the mainstream. The most recent superstar to hail from Virginia is R&B superstar, Trey Songz. This success has fueled the desire of

The Our City Boyz to bring their own personal talents to that same level of stardom.

The Our City Boyz (formerly known as Organized Crime) was started in 2007. They were well-known on the city-wide mix tape circuit, with the street release of the Organized Crime Volumes 1-3 mix tapes. The Our City Boyz became known as the Petersburg “Remix Kings” by recreating songs such as “Late Night Tip” by Three Six Mafia, “Hood Nigga” by Gorilla Zoe, and “Money Make Me Cum” by Rick Ross, to name a few. The listeners believed that these remixes revitalized the original songs. The group began to pick up momentum locally and wanted their talents to reach a wider span of listeners in the surrounding areas. Though the group had a great article featured in the local newspaper, to establish themselves further in the business, more support would be needed.

At the beginning of 2008, OCB (still Organized Crime) had a turn that vastly benefited their future. The group landed a performance at a local showcase, in which DJ Bounca was in charge for sound and DJ’ing. OCB had a standout performance which included the lead single “Weasel Pop”. Wowed by the crowd’s acceptance to this brand new track, DJ Bounca finally answered the question of who would take them to the next level in the music game. Shortly after DJ Bounca, landed the group its first radio interviews with Zxulu the Big Lipp Bandit on 106.5 The Beat(Richmond,Va) and A-Plus on I Power 92.1 Jamz(Richmond,Va). At this point, with the maturity of the groups notoriety came time for a name change that would fit what they wanted the world to see them as, The Our City Boyz!

During 2009, the first of three mixtapes were dropped; “Getting to the Money Vol. 1.” had over 7000 units spread along the states of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. Along with the dropping of this mixtape, the group made it a point to perform anywhere and everywhere possible in different showcases covering the south-east. The fan base grew larger as they put more hard work behind the craft that bigger venues were offered to the group to display their talent. After a year of grooming of DJ Bounca and other helping components (DJ Foot; Otis Gary of 1st Seed Recordings), the group geared up for yet another pylon toward success.

,,Along with the quality of the music, listeners began to realize the hunger and grind after the group dropped two more mixtapes “The Takeover Vol.2” and “In My City Vol.3” in 2009. Each of these projects over 12,000 units were moved on the Eastern seaboard. The venues grew also, including opening up a date from the Hyponotize College Tour @ Virginia State University; Lil Will @ Club Dreams in Richmond, VA; Atlantic Artist Gucci Mane @ the Roxoboro Raceway in Timberlake, NC; and South Carolina Music Awards (SCMA’s) in Columbia, SC and being invited guest @ the Core DJ’s Music Retreat in Atlanta, GA.To add to the progress, the leading single was placed on several different mix tape series such as DJ Var’s “City Under Seige” series in Richmond, VA and DJ Next’s “Next to Blow” series based in Detriot, MI. To support the visual aspects of the “Weasel Pop” Legendary Radio Personality Zxulu The Big Lip Bandit directed the first Official Video of the groups leading single which is in the works of being placed in rotation on MTV Jams, Fuse and VH1. Radio Stations such as WYTT 99.5 Jamz (Roanoke Rapids,Nc) WIIZ 97.9 (Augusta,Ga)WEUP 103.1(Huntsville,Al) WRBJ 97.7 The Beat (Jackson,Ms) WBTJ 106.5 The Beat (Richmond,Va) have also picked up spinning the catchy melody that screams “Dance!” to all the ears it reaches.
