Formed in 2004 to capture the melancholic of Portugal’s northern

urban landscapes, Oblique Rain immediately committed themselves

to the rehearsal room, writing, throwing away and starting new

compositions from scratch, improving their style and progressing as

musicians and entity.

Eventually, in 2007, the band was confident enough. Armed with their

best seven tracks so far, they recorded and self released «Isohyet»,

their album, turning a lot of heads in the process due to their magnificent

mixture of progressive, melancholic and gloomy metal.

Obviously, talent always goes pair with technical ability and this group

formed by professional classical musicians who do wonderful vocal

harmonies and catchy riffs, guitar teachers who solo like rock-stars

and a classically-trained bass-player was soon to be joined by the

best Portuguese drummer: Daniel Cardoso, of Sirius, Head Control

System and Heavenwood fame.

Not losing momentum, Oblique Rain quickly wrote «Isohyet»’s follow-

up and recorded it in their drummer’s UltraSound Studios (with

the band itself producing it and Daniel mixing and mastering). The

result is «October Dawn» a further progressive and tighter approach

to OR’s trademark sound and one of the best albums ever to come

out of Portugal, period.

Due to the road-trip the band is preparing to promote «October Dawn»,

Daniel Cardoso saw himself meanwhile in the hard position of having

to choose continuing his work in UltraSound and play in Oblique Rain.

A new drummer called Marcelo Aires was recently announce and the

band coming from Porto is ready to take its magic to Portugal’s main

venues and abroad.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whether we write or speak or do but look

We are ever unapparent. What we are

Cannot be transfused into word or book,

Our soul from us is infinitely far.

However much we give our thoughts the will

To be our soul and gesture it abroad,

Our hearts are incommunicable still.

In what we show ourselves we are ignored.

The abyss from soul to soul cannot be bridged

By any skill of thought or trick of seeming.

Unto our very selves we are abridged

When we would utter to our thought our being.

We are our dreams of ourselves souls by gleams,

And each to each other dreams of others' dreams.
