Life as the hottest rapper in Hempstead, Long Island comes with its perks.
But for Nicholas "NYCKZ" Mayfield, 23, the ultimate goal isnt hometown VIP treatment its widespread acceptance. In Hempstead Im a ghetto superstar, but Im focused on the bigger picture.
I always knew since I was little music was going to take me to the top! In school I would be in the lunchroom freestylin' and banging on the tables. This next sentence isn't so influential to the younger crowd, but i eventually dropped out of school to pursue my dreams of being a "rap star". School wasnt for me, and I knew I could make it doing music!.
In order to prove myself me and a childhood friend(Hefaracci) formed a company,Get It Poppn Entertainment! This wasn't an easy task but with hard work and dedication one of my singles made it to the radio, "Get It How U Live". The first Dj that ever embraced me or gave me a chance was Funk Master Flex, all the other Dj's weren't really sure if i had what i took to be star material. Right now i'm constantly in the studio banging out joints with my hommie Buddah. I'm real confident with him, he's a cool dude. He produced things for Busta Rhymes and various other artist so I know i'm in good hands.
I know i have what it takes to become a household name and have people embracing my music.
Still, I know I'm a long way from enjoying even the fringe benefits of hip hops platinum club. Until then, small-town perks will have to do!
