Nucomme, a Corpus Christi born vocalist and musician, is heavily influenced by jazz and blues rhythms, Drawing lyrically from soul, harmonically and structurally from jazz, and rhythmically from blues guitar, Nucomme’s musical expression is constantly evolving. “I make music to exercise the demons in my soul and for the women in my family who wanted to pursue their dreams and desires and could not.”

Singing nearly before she could talk, Nucomme inherited her love of music from her mother and grandmother. “When I was four-years-old, my mother was shocked to hear me singing in perfect pitch to “Black Butterfly” by Denise Williams on the radio.” Honing her craft on the subways of NYC, Nucomme began to write her own material seven years ago. While on line to audition for the Apollo in 2003, the self-taught guitarist wrote a new song, “Change”, on the spot. “That song took me to a whole new level of confidence and taught me to improvise in the moment,” she says. “I stepped out and lost any fear of creating my own sound.” She got the gig and hasn’t stopped since, performing at venues like Joe’s Pub, the Brooklyn Band Shell, Southpaw and being showcased at events such as the Black Women’s Arts Festival and Brown Girls Burlesque.

Currently, Nucomme is working on a multi-media performance in tribute to Betty Mabry Davis, ex-wife of Miles Davis and one of the original voices in the funkadelic movement of the mid-70s. Unabashed, sexually charged, and richly layered in funk, soul and R&B, Betty’s Story is the culmination of all of Nucomme’s musical influences.
