Montreal’s own Nomadic Massive has firmly established itself as a group of premier performers and skilled musicians in a genre that has evolved from its early days of two turntables and a microphone. These musical nomads represent an open-minded Hip-Hop which finds its inspiration in the traditions of the past; combining live instrumentation, samples, and a wide array of vocal styles.
This multilingual, multicultural, super-group has become synonymous with energetic and crowd-moving live shows. Sharing the stage with such notable acts as Wyclef Jean (2008), K’naan (2005), and Guru’s Jazzmatazz (2008); Nomadic has also performed at world class festivals including the Montreal International Jazz Festival (2007-2009), and in Toronto at Yonge-Dundas Square's Global Rhythms Festival (2008), and the Harbourfront Global Hip-Hop Festival (2006, 2007). After being voted best Hip Hop local act in the MIRROR for 2 years in a row, Nomadic Massive was nominated for best Hip Hop album of the year (2009) at La GAMIQ.
The group has also left its mark internationally; initiating socio-cultural exchanges with like-minded artists from Sao Paolo, Brazil (2008) and in Havana, Cuba (2004, 2006). In both countries, these initiatives involved educational and musical workshops, concerts and studio collaborations. From these enriching exchanges, the grassroots “Get Down” mix-tape series came to life; showcasing the collaborations as well as solo contributions from Brazilian and Cuban artists. Functioning somewhat as ambassadors, Nomadic continues to redefine what Hip-Hop can achieve on a global level.
With the first critically acclaimed EP, Nomads Land (2004), more than 3000 copies were sold independently on the strength of the group's performances before inking a distribution deal with Montreal-Toronto based Public Transit Recordings.
As the group's ongoing explorations open up new ways to interpret a musical style that has traditionally been marginalized, the “more” that has always existed in the Hip-Hop movement is revealed in everything that is Nomadic Massive.
This is new full-length self-titled opus, recorded between Havana and Montreal; featuring the full Massive and showcasing musicians from all over the world. It perfectly represents the spirit of the group's live performance. Positively Hip Hop, the record seamlessly swings between Soul, Reggae, Jazz, Blues, Afro-Caribbean, Latin-American and North-African influences on which percussive and reflected lyrics are intelligently delivered in five languages. Le groupe Montréalais Nomadic Massive s’est fermement imposé dans un style musical qui a fait son bout de chemin depuis ses débuts avec deux platines et un micro. Ces nomades musicaux, vraies bêtes de scènes bourrées de talent, représentent un Hip Hop ouvert d’esprit qui trouve son inspiration dans les traditions du passé en combinant instrumentation live, échantillonnage et une myriade de styles vocaux qui ne laisse personne indifférent.
Ce super-groupe multilingue et multiculturel, est devenu synonyme de spectacles endiablés qui n'offrent aucun répit au public. Ayant partagé la scène avec des artistes tels que Wyclef Jean (2008), K’naan (2005) et Guru’s Jazzmatazz (2008), Nomadic Massive a foulé les planches de plusieurs festivals de renommée mondiale dont le Festival International de Jazz de Montréal (2007-2009), le Global Rhythms Festival au Yonge-Dundas Square à Toronto (2008) et le Harbourfront Global Hip-Hop Festival (2006, 2007). Après avoir été élus pendant 2 années consécutives, meilleur groupe de Hip Hop scène locale, Nomadic Massive a été nominée pour le meilleur album Hip Hop de l’année 2009 à la GAMIQ.
Le groupe a aussi laissé sa marque au niveau international en initiant des échanges socioculturels avec des artistes de vision artistique similaire, du Brésil (2008) à Cuba (2004, 2006). Dans les deux pays, ces initiatives comprenaient des ateliers éducatifs et musicaux, des concerts et des créations en studio. Comme résultat de cet enrichissant partage, le groupe a sorti la série de mix-tapes “Get Down”; qui propose les fruits de leurs collaborations ainsi que des contributions d’artistes brésiliens et cubains. Assumant pratiquement un rôle d’ambassadeurs, les membres du groupe continuent à redéfinir ce que le Hip Hop peut réaliser au niveau global.
Hautement acclamé par les critiques, leur premier EP intitulé Nomad’s Land (2004) s'est vendu à plus de 3000 copies de façon indépendante durant les spectacles. S'en est suivi une signature avec le label de distribution Public Transit Recordings (Toronto-Montréal) quelques mois plus tard.
Tandis que le groupe continue à proposer à travers leurs constantes explorations de nouvelles façons d’interpréter un style traditionnellement marginalisé, la quintessence du mouvement Hip Hop resurgit dans tout ce qu’est Nomadic Massive.
Ce nouvel album reflète parfaitement la diversité du groupe et leur capacité à filtrer leurs différentes influences musicales afin de créer ce son qui leur est si particulier. Le mélange de cinq langues s’exécute intelligemment et sans complexe tout au long de cet album.
