Niko Star, has always been into music. Growing up in Jamaica exposed the future DJ to all types of music, especially reggae and dancehall. As he grew older he was introduced to hip hop from a neighbor who spent the summer in New York and came back with tapes from Run DMC and Salt-N-Pepa amongst others. A few years later his family moved to the United States, Texas to be exact. There, Niko was cemented in a rock and rap culture to add to his reggae roots. But it wasn't until a few years later and a move to Orlando, Florida that Niko found his calling. He met his DJ uncle for the first time, and was introduced to two turntables and a mixer. From that day forth every chance he got, Niko would go to his uncles house to practice playing on the turntables. The only problem was his uncle only collected older disco, Motown, and soul records. Eventually if Niko was to be a real DJ he would have to buy his own set, and collect his own records. Fast Forward a year later, at the age of 14 Niko bought his first turntable and mixer. Using a tape player, a mixer and one turntable, Niko practiced every chance he could get to learn how to mix. Eventually he was able to book gigs doing small birthday parties and school functions. He would also make mix-tapes that he would sell at the local record shops.
In college Niko was the go-to DJ for most of the fraternity functions, DJing for Kappa week, Alpha Week, and most other college functions. He got his first shot at djing in the clubs of Orlando on a Friday night, and since then has played in every hip hop/reggae club around town.
Feeling for a change of scenery, Niko moved to New York to finish up school. In two months time he earned an internship at Def-Jam working with legal and business affairs. There he learned everything he could about the corporate side of the business. Unfortunately, the business side of music fell far short of his expectations. Upon graduation Niko took his talents and all his newly acquired knowledge back to Florida to officially lock down "The South". In Orlando, Niko was the go-to guy when it came to dancehall music, but that wasn't enough.
Only knowing a cousin who was helping to promote parties, Niko moved to Miami and excelled in the reggae/dance-hall market. He was a member of the world famous Black Chiney, later became a member of Gambino Sound before going on his own. By himself, Niko has travelled throughout the caribbean playing many of the biggest parties including ATI Weekend in Negril, Jamaica. In Miami, Niko has played at some of the most prestigious clubs on South Beach including Opium, Bed, Dream, & Club Fifth.
He continues to be booked weekly at venues throughout Miami and the caribbean, and with his podcasts, Niko is getting a lot of buzz across seas, and is planning a european tour very soon.
