Nicolas Vera, Guitarist/Composer
Nicolas Vera first appeared on the Chilean jazzscene in 2000. By bringing along his
sound and style, he has contributed in creating a more original and forward thinking
movement that has been developing on the Chilean Jazz-scene over the last decade.
Whilst working actively as a sideman with established names in the industry, he gradually
started to gain attention also as a band leader.
As a composer he has recorded four albums, which each and individually reprents his
constant search for new musical ground:
"Fiasco Contemporáneo" (Quartet/2003)
"Circular" (Trio/2005)
"Bellavista" (Quintet/2008)
"New CD" (Quintet/2010) – to be released
So far he has toured Chile, Argentina, Mexico and Belgium, and has been invited to big
jazz festivals and concert venues.
With his third album "Bellavista", Nicolas started a new project as leader of a Quintet,
slightly changing the direction of his repertoire. Each musician now had to acquired a
principal role within the band, thereby contributing to a more unique sounding unit as a
whole.
The Quintets' second album soon to be released in 2010.
This album features new compositions drawing influences from pop, rock and latin. The
sound is based around the guitar and sax, complemented by the sound of vintage
keyboards (moog, honner string performer), as well as the acoustic piano, this album is
taking the band to new heights.
