Nico Cota is a multi-instrumentist musician (keyboard, guitar, bass, drums, percussion). He is also an accomplished lyricist, vocalist, composer, producer and DJ, who has more than 15 years of experience on hundreds of live shows at concert rooms, festivals and outdoors events, studio sessions and productions. He played for multi awarded artist’s shows and recordings, shared stage with international stars, and is featured on several albums, some of them multi platinum. Cota also composes, produces and plays his own music. He has just released his soloist album THE SOLO.



Timeline:



>1990: From ages 17 to 20 played as percussionist with the band of prestigious jazz guitarist Luis Salinas, which served as a ramp to play with some of the best argentine musicians ever (Mono Fontana, Javier Malosetti, Guillermo Vadala, Jota Morelli, and others), plus musicians from abroad on the ongoing jam sessions.



>1993-95: Plays keyboards and percussion with band Illya Kuryaki & the Valderramas. He also participated as a guest on their awarded albums (Horno para calentar los mares, Chaco, Versus and Leche) playing keyboards, and producing some of the tracks. He currently plays as a guest whenever they play live since the noteworthy gig New Argentine Rock '94.



>1995-1997: Plays keyboards, percussion and chorus for Grammy awarded Fito Paez's new original line-up, with legend Pomo brought from Spain, drums; Guillermo Vadalá, bass; Gringui Herrera and Gabriel Carámbula, guitars; Tweety gonzalez, keyboards; and Laura Vázquez and Alina Gandini, keyboards and chorus. With this band Paez presented his multi platinum album Circo Beat, sharing the scene with major international artists Djavan, Paralamas, Mercedes Sosa, Charly García, Caetano Veloso, Ruben Rada, Hugo Fattoruso, Osvaldo Fattoruso, Titas, and other first line musicians through gigs visiting Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Peru, Bolivia, Colombia, Venezuela, Brasil, Paraguay, Ecuador, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Mexico, USA, Spain, France and Germany. Cota plays in the following Paez' albums: multi platinum Euforia Unplugged (1996) and Enemigos Intimos(1997) [a Paez-Sabina record]. Around this period Cota also remixed a Twist album with Dj Zuker (1995)



>1997: Performed with Luis Alberto Spinetta, Grammy nominated artist, and icon and pioneer of rock in Spanish for the recording in Miami of his MTV Unplugged Estrelicia show, with Mono Fontana on piano, Marcelo Torres, bass; and Daniel Wirzt, drums. After the show they played on emblematic Grand Rex theatre in Buenos Aires, three days on a row, full house.



>1998: Mono Fontana asks him to play in the Jaco Pastorius Tribute show, where he plays with Javier Malosetti, Guillermo Vadala, Santiago Vazquez,Pablo de la Loza, Alvaro Torres, Pablo Rufino, Gustavo Giles, Fernando Martinez and Marcelo Torres.



>1999: First soloist album, THE SOLO, where he sings and plays keyboards, drums, bass, guitars and percussion. With special all-stars guests Luis Alberto Spinetta, Mono Fontana, Javier Malosetti, Guillermo Vadlá, Santiago Vázquez, Juan Scalona, Sergio Verdinelli, Grace Cosceri, Ana Alvarez de Toledo, Dante Spinetta, Emmanuel Horvilleur, Patán Vidal,Nicolas Ibarburu, Claudio Cardone, Juan de Benedictis, Magali, Geo Ramma, Paul Acedo, Chofi Faruolo, Carlos Huertas Mariano Lopez (recording and mixing), in a blend of Funk, Hip Hop, Soul, Salsa and Jazz.

Cota also directs with DJ Zuker radio FUNKY SOUL 103.5 where he also has his own show, CHOCOLATE COTA.



>2000: Plays percussion and keyboards in super band DIVIDIDOS on a national gig.

Plays on special and album VIVO PARANOICO of band RATONES PARANOICOS, also on their national gig and the Buenos Aires Hot Festival where they were chosen to share stage with Neil Young, Oasis, Beck and others.



>2001: Whole summer playing with jazz singer Grace Cosceri, in a mix of soul and jazz with great press and public acclaim.

THE SOLO is released in Argentina by POP ART records with great press acclaim.

Performances playing bass and percussion on music by DJ Zuker. Shows at Pachá, Clubland, Asia de Cuba, Teatrón, an others.



>2002: Ongoing live shows presenting THE SOLO.

DJ at Obras Electrónicas, -electronic music showcase-, Obras Stadium.



>2003: On tour with his first solo album THE SOLO with his Band,Emanuel Cauvet (Drums),Matias Mendez (Bass),Peter Akselrad (Guitar,voice),Baltazar Comotto (Guitar,voice),Luciana Palacios (voice) and Matias Zapata (keys).

TV presentations with the band.

On tour with Luis Alberto Spinetta on his new album “Para los Arboles”,playing percussion and Virtual Drums.



>2004: Makes the music of the play BAJOREY,mixing Hip hop with Arabic sounds.

Ongoing live shows presenting THE SOLO.



>2005: In march,Cota and his band open the JAMES BROWN show in the Luna Park ,Buenos Aires.

He works with the director Esteban Sapir in 2 songs for the film LA ANTENA.



>2006: He develops a project with Santiago Vazquez and Alejandro Franov,naming it VCF (vocoder.cuttoff.filter),a mix of Jazz,hip hop and afrobeat .

He begins to work with Anahi Berneri on his film ENCARNACION.



>He played as a guest on shows with:



-Monos con Navaja, as support of Zawinul Sindicate, 1993.

-Percussionist on Clinic of drummer Jota Morelli (current Al Jarreau drummer), with Javier Malosetti, Guille Arrom and Mono Fontana.

-Duet Fontana-Vásquez.

-Multi awarded Armando Manzanero-Chico Novarro at Buenos Aires.

-Trio Malosetti-Romero-Peyceré.

In 2005 he becomes the Dj of the URBAN NIGHTS (Hip hop,Funk party) of Budweiser in all Latinamerica,plays in Chile,Paraguay,Colombia,Panama,Honduras and others.
