Tim Showalter and his Strand of Oaks project has been near and dear to all of us at HearYa since we first heard his debut Leave Ruin back in 2009. We’ve cut two HearYa sessions (Session 1 and Session 2) since then and I always enjoy spending time with Tim. He’s one of those guys that you just want to succeed. This session features Strand Of Oaks in it’s current full-band touring lineup. Tim keeps good company as Mike, Eliza and Deven are all warm and friendly musicians that bring great vibes.
We’ll be releasing this session in three segments. This first segment showcases a rearrangement of “Woke Up To the Light” from the 2014 release, HEAL. The band rolled in on a Sunday morning after spending the night at Tim’s parents in Goshen, IN. I think there were some living room piano sing-alongs happening with Tim’s mother during their stay that inspired the reworking of this song. As we got the studio situated for the recording, the band worked through this new arrangement. It’s incredibly heartfelt and powerful. I think it looks and sounds beautiful and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
