King Tuff Black Moon Spell [album review]

My parents didn’t have the best taste in music growing up. I don’t have great stories of us sitting around listening to The Beach Boys, Otis Redding or The Beatles. Just wasn’t there thing. So when I finally discovered rock n’ roll, I was captivated. My first dalliance was mostly with metal bands. It was taboo, filthy and against the grain of the norm; and I loved it.

I’m now 44 and King Tuff does a great job of capturing the spirit of that kid. Black Moon Spell is a demented blend of metal, garage, punk and glam-rock. And if not for the talent of Kyle Thomas, and his supporting cast – Magic Jake on bass & Big old Gary on drums -, this could come of as cheesy. Instead they nail it and Black Moon Spell is 42 minute roller-coaster of a rock and roll sexperience.

His idea of a romantic tune is swooning over a gal because of her record collection in Headbanger. You could also say the track Black Holes In Stereo is romantic in a sense as he declares his undying love for vinyl. As for true love, I Love You Ugly is a minute’s blast of good times where true love wins out.

Is this album for everybody? No. Probably not putting this on for dinner parties or first dates but this is a great blast of rock and roll for the young at heart in all of us.
