Donald Cumming is set to release his debut solo album on June 16th. The album will be titled Out Calls Only and comes out via the fine folks at Washington Square/Razor & Tie. Apparently Cumming was the lead singer for a band called The Virgins that I apparently never listened to. Maybe that was my loss but I do like the tracks I heard. Reminds me of Elvis Costello. Here’s Donald on his new album.
“I especially don’t believe in telling people what to play or micromanaging,” he professes. “I don’t write everyone’s parts. If I’m not gonna play it, then I don’t want to write the part. And I’m very fortunate to have what sounds like an organic record. We’re playing what we want to be playing, what makes sense for each song, and we’re playing it all together.”
