Bee Caves are a band out of Austin, TX and I think they are named after a small town in Texas, called Bee Cave. I stumbled across them in a post about some SXSW party or another. I clicked on them because I liked their name, nothing else. Finally, judging a book by its cover has worked out for me.

I’ve listened to their EP, Animals With Religion a few times and I am reminded of the first times I listened to Other Lives. The band works in that dark cosmic Americana that was so prevalent on the early Other Lives albums while working in electronica that permeated Tamer Animals and the upcoming Rituals.

The piano in Running Home To You and the melody & guitars from Black Mason Hills are reminiscent of the Other Lives debut. Both tunes could slide on that album without missing a beat. As the album progresses, electronica starts to move into the album with the title track and I Remember Now. Lead singer Reed Calhoun’s vocals on I Remember Now reminded me of another HearYa favorite, The Low Anthem and Ben Knox Miller.

Other Lives and The Low Anthem are two of HearYa’s all time favorite bands. We hold both acts in such high regard that if I am name-dropping them in a post, you know that I am loving these guys. I can’t wait to see them at SXSW. I think they are going to draw a ton of buzz. Get on the bandwagon early.

They are going to be at the following places during SXSW

Wednesday at 3PM at The Sane Jose
Friday: 3PM at the Morning After Party for Frontgate Tickets
Friday: 8PM at The Parish
