France TV has made available a video stream of Dutch National Opera's most recent production, Emmanuel Chabrier's comic opera L'Étoile. Performances took place through the month of October, and the cast includes two Canadians: Soprano Hélène Guilmette (La Princesse Laoula) and mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne (Aloès).
L'Étoile is a romp with an absurd plot, ridiculous characters and absolutely wonderful music. This Dutch National Opera cast delivers a great ensemble performance under Laurent Pelly's direction. If you're unfamiliar with L'Étoile, you're in for a treat. The stream is available until April 29, 2015.
