Here's a deal: if you vote in the Canadian federal election, July Talk will give you a call

Published: October 13, 2015

The federal election is taking place on Oct. 19, and while CBC News reports that voter turnout in advance polls has already gone up 16 per cent since 2011, many messages are being sent out to get everyone to the polling stations.

Canadian musicians have been spreading the word, whether by sharing an anti-Harper video (Hey Rosetta! and Yukon Blonde) or posting a get-out-there-and-vote message on Tumblr (Grimes). Today, Toronto rockers July Talk have taken it a step further. If you are under 25 and vote next Monday (or if you’ve already voted), the band’s singers, Leah Fay and Peter Dreimanis, will personally call you.

The campaign, which is using the hashtag #JulyTalkVotes, hopes to get more people out to the voting polls this year.

"The future of Canada is in our hands," the band wrote in a Facebook post. "Let’s all use our ballots to decide what happens next."

The rules are simple: once you’ve voted, post a photo of yourself at the polling station on your Instagram, Facebook or Twitter account using the hashtag #JulyTalkVotes. If you’ve already voted and didn’t get a chance to snap a photo, create a post with the hashtag and add a different photo that proves you voted. After that, email the band at vote@julytalk.com with your phone number. Starting Oct. 19. the band will call everyone who submitted their information.
