Singer-songwriter Brendan Philip has been cutting his teeth artistically for the past few years via collaborative work with fellow Toronto artists, including Keita Juma, with whom he teamed for 2014's bouncy house-influenced "Come Over." However, 2015 has seen him break out definitively on his own.

Philip issued his debut, self-titled EP in May, just ahead of his appearance at Arts and Crafts' Field Trip festival, and he's now following up that set with Cul+ure Power Vol. 0, another EP on Fake Art/Dine Alone Records.

The EP features Philip's penchant for presenting his voice in electronically and naturally induced modes, while retaining intimacy. It's an attribute that remains paramount in identifying the appeal of Philip's music. Leading off with the jazzy fragmentation of "Ghostface," the EP also features the woozy insistence of "VIA" and the upbeat house of "Way Down."

Despite the sonic variety on display, Philip's layered vocals, cushioned by warm, electronic sounds, are the impressive common denominator.

Cul+ure Power, Vol. 0 will be available Oct. 16 on Dine Alone Records, but you can listen to the EP in its entirety by clicking on the player above. You can purchase music by Brendan Philip here.
