Coming up on The Strombo Show: Jazz Cartier and Stevie Van Zandt

Published: February 05, 2016

The Strombo Show runs the gamut this Sunday night, keeping the spirit of radio alive by delivering the best records in the best order. It's a show for music lovers by music lovers, ranging over three hours of commercial-free music to honour both old and new.

This week, George Stroumboulopoulos welcomes a very special, exclusive performance with Jazz Cartier. We'll also feature an intimate conversation with Stevie Van Zandt, recorded backstage at Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's River tour in Toronto.

Cartier has branded himself as Toronto's prince of hip-hop. His work ethic and theatrical production have earned him critical praise since his Polaris-nominated debut, Marauding in Paradise. After the surprise release of Hotel Paranoia this past week, we celebrated in the House of Strombo with friends that included Canadian hip-hop royalty like Maestro Fresh Wes. Cartier joins George for a conversation, performs several cuts off his sophomore album and debuts a new track, "Cut the Cheque."

Van Zandt is the legendary E Street Band renaissance man. He's known for his performances in The Sopranos and Lilyhammer, and for his syndicated radio program that celebrates dusty distortion, Little Steven's Underground Garage. In the midst of a sold-out tour, Little Steven sits down with George to celebrate The River, talk about the Rock and Roll Forever Foundation and reveal what's ahead.

For further musical exploration with George Stroumboulopoulos, tune in to The Strombo Show every Sunday night on CBC Radio 2 or CBC Music from 8 to 11 p.m. for three hours of uninterrupted music for music lovers.
