Blue Of Noon – “Jacob’s Ladder”

Published: April 24, 2017

A swelling, aquatic synth pad and bustling post-punk rhythm kicks off “Jacob’s Ladder” in captivating form. The track from Ontario-based Blue of Noon assumes a momentary increase in bounciness alongside the initial wave of vocals, before pulling back with a caressing shoegaze-like reverbed pull. It continues to alternate between this lush form in the verses and more energetic chorus, setting up for a beautifully anticipated contrast between infectious energy and restrained atmospheric nostalgia. ’80s-inspired synth, twangy guitars, and a spirited vocal delivery make “Jacob’s Ladder” an impressive showing.
