By now, hopefully you’ve heard the lovely sounds of Lion Babe on this site. This pair of young talent caught the ears of the music industry pretty quickly while working on a host of new collaborations and material for 2015.

The duo first met in New York while Jillian (vocalist) was still a high school senior and Lucas (producer) was a freshmen in college. A chance meeting between mutual friends led them to hit the studio together, and they quickly became aware of the instant chemistry.

“We’re looking to combine music that we’ve been inspired by in the past,” Jillian tells VIBE. “And, kind of give it a new life, and we also love dance—and really strong visuals.”

Lion Babe on the inspiration behind their name.

“We were definitely really inspired by Blondie. Some people might even think Blondie is Debbie Harry, but Blondie is a band,” says Lucas of their namesake and influences. “Then there’s Debbie Harry. But it’s almost like her silhouette is an inspiration for the band’s name, so we kind of play off that, too. “
