The third and final day during weekend two of Coachella 2019 kicked with a plenty of soul, thanks to Kanye West. The rapper/designer brought his ‘Sunday Service’ ritual to the iconic music festival, performing on top of a mountain built on the Empire Polo Club campgrounds on Sunday morning (Apr. 21). During the near 90-minute show, a live choir, band and dancers performed covers of records from West’s discography. Gospel songs by Kirk Franklin and Shirley Caesar, plus classics by Otis Redding, Soul II Soul and The Clark Sisters were also done. Chance the Rapper, Ty Dolla $ign and Teyana Taylor also make appearances, along with DMX who delivered a live prayer.
Kanye used the must-watch moment to debut a new track, called “Water.” The record, which West performed with Ant Clemons, may potentially be a preview of the rapper’s forthcoming studio album Yandhi. Hear the premiere below.
