Michelle Williams Bows Out Of Broadway Show … Find Out Why!

Published: December 13, 2018

Michelle Williams is putting her health first as doctors advise her to quit her stint in the Broadway show, “Once On This Island”.

2019 has been a year filled with ups and downs for Michelle Williams. At the top of the year she was celebrating her engagement to pastor Chad Johnson. But just months later, she entered a mental health facility to seek treatment for depression.

Not one to be broken, Williams emerged from treatment feeling “happy and healthy”, and focused on her impending nuptials with Johnson. The two embarked on a reality show where they let viewers follow their journey to the alter and even sit in on their counseling session. But the journey recently came to an end when the two called off their engagement at the beginning of December. At the time, Williams eluded to her mental health issue being the catalyst saying, “the healing that needs to take place is a must. I don’t wanna destroy another relationship.”

And now, just days after announcing their split, Michelle is ending yet another relationship — her one with Broadway. The “Say Yes” singer had only been in the role of goddess Erzulie for two weeks before doctors pulled the plug. “Effective immediately, Michelle T. Williams has been advised by doctors to take a leave of absence from performing,” read a statement from the show.

According to Playbill:

“Williams’ understudy, Cassondra James, assumes the role of goddess Erzulie until December 26. Tony winner Lea Salonga (Miss Saigon, Allegiance, Les Miserables, Flower Drum Song), who originated the role in this production, will play Erzulie from December 27 through its final performance on January 6, 2019.”

Sending well wishes and prayers to Michelle.
