Sister Cristina, a 26-year-old Italian nun, became an overnight YouTube sensation when she performed Alicia Keys‘ ballad “No One” on The Voice Italy earlier this year. She went on to win the competition, generating enough interest along the way to land a US deal with Republic Records. The divine diva is now promoting debut album (due November 11) with a cover of Madonna‘s “Like A Virgin”.
My initial reaction to Sister Cristina’sunfortunatesong choice was to bathe my ears out in holy water but she has her reasons. “I chose ‘Like A Virgin’ because I wanted it to bear witness to Gods power to move all things!” she said in a statement. “I see it as God’s touch, when he called me to a new life, giving me back the purity and dignity of being his Daughter and being Loved by Him.” Ok, sis.
