Loreen Returns With Brilliant Dance Anthem “Paper Light (Higher)”: Listen

Loreen Interview
Loreen opens up about winning Eurovision, her plans for world domination and album number two.

Eurovision winners aren’t exactly known for their staying power. For every ABBA and Celine Dion, there are 20 Ruslanas. (No shade — “Wild Dances” is still iconic!) Time will tell if 2012 champion Loreen converts her win into a long and successful career, but she got off to a pretty good start with excellent debut LP Heal and now ups the ante even further with the first taste of her sophomore set.

“Paper Light (Higher)” finds the Swedish diva in a happier mood than unusual. While I loved the gloominess of tracks like “My Heart Is Refusing Me,” the 31-year-old’s new single is an uplifting burst of dance-pop in the mold of “Euphoria” — only somehow softer and more refined. On the Scandipop scale of excellence, Loreen’s latest lands somewhere between Robyn and Medina. Her sophomore LP Paperlight is expected later this year.
