Future Islands’ Breakthrough Hit “Seasons (Waiting On You)” Gets Remixed By Jazz Trio BADBADNOTGOOD

Published: November 26, 2014

Future Islands made the leap from indie-darlings to festival headliners in 2014 thanks to the synth-pop gem “Seasons (Waiting On You)” and one hell of a performance on the Late Show With David Letterman. (The fact that their fourth LP Singles is pretty much perfect also helped). The band is celebrating their banner by releasing a staggeringly good jazz remix (!) by avant garde trio BADBADNOTGOOD. And they are even giving it away for free.

“We all love the original version of the song, and we were honored to have the opportunity to try and remix it,” BADBADNOTGOOD bass play Chester Hansen says. “We heard Sam’s isolated singing and realized how soulful and emotive it was and seemed to sound the best was re-harmonizing the chords and taking it in a soul direction.” The process? “We came up with a slow groove for the verse that let the vocals breathe, and played the chorus double time to make it more powerful. After we laid down the rhythm track, we overdubbed guitar, keys and a bunch of other parts to fill it out. Take a listen after the jump.

Don’t forget to download the remix here. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
