#ThrowbackThursday: the first YouTube video ever was aboutelephants?

Published: April 24, 2014

Yesterday marked the nine-year anniversary of YouTube and even though the popular video-sharing site and a treasure trove of music videos, funny clips and god knows what else, YouTube’s very first video was, well, kinda boring.

Uploaded by a user named Jawed on Saturday April 23rd, 2005 at 8:27 p.m., the video shows a boy at the San Diego Zoo talking about elephants and why they’re so awesome: “The cool thing about these guys is that they have really, really, really long trunks, and that’s cool.” Uhh, thanks for the important info. Surely Google or Wikipedia would’ve told us more than that.

The video has amassed over 14 million views in its nine years. Check it out below and maybe wish the popular site a happy birthday by uploading something a little more…interesting.
