Premiere: Listen To Ralph’s Shiny ‘Cold To The Touch’ Remix

Published: September 22, 2017

If you’ve paid attention to the new sounds of 2017, you’ll know that Ralph has become one of Canadian music’s fastest rising pop players—featured prominently on major streaming services, the pages of fashion magazines and even a jumbo billboard in Toronto’s busy Yonge-Dundas Square.

The Toronto-based artist, real name Raffa Weyman, released her debut self-titled EP in March to wide acclaim, with the retro-kissed six-song collection gaining traction ever since.

Today, the EP’s second single “Cold To The Touch” gets the official remix treatment, where we hear the infectious synth-pop jam cranked up several sparkly notches thanks to producer Nicolaas’ vision.

“Rob (Nicolaas) was the mastermind behind the construction of the remix,” says Ralph. “I love that he kept a lot of the original song structure, but played with the vocal arrangement and sound on the choruses.”

Lyrically, “Cold To The Touch” is a story of unrequited love, but the nostalgic, Venice Beach-ready vibe is anything but downbeat. A number of subtle new vocal twists can be heard on the revamped cut—adding a welcome layer of disco energy as summer winds down.

“Listening through I kept humming these little vocal ad-libs,” Ralph says. “So, we hopped into the studio for literally an hour and I just tried a bunch of stuff—nothing crazy, just some simple “woos!” and “heys!” to really enhance the fun, dance-y vibe.”

Signed to 604 Records (Carly Rae Jepsen, Coleman Hell), Ralph returns to set to film a new MuchFACT-funded music video next month with “Tease” and “Cold To The Touch” video director Gemma Warren. The singer will also be releasing a new single with electro-pop group Darcys later this fall, before touring Ontario together in November. To maintain that “Cold To The Touch” forever-summer feeling, see Ralph’s Facebook page for tour dates and catch her show on the road.
