Lights Returns With Apocalyptic Video For ‘Giants’

Published: June 26, 2017

It’s been three years since Lights dropped her JUNO Award-winning album Little Machines and now the Canadian pop star is back with the lead single from her upcoming album Skin & Earth.

Giving fans an inspirational anthem, “Giants” is the song we need right now, with Lights singing the timely lyrics “Bigger than the walls that hide us / Breaking all the laws of science / Looking at a sea of diamonds / If we could be, we could be giants.”

The video stars Lights living in a dystopian future where clean air is non existent and water is rationed out in dirty and dusty camps. Everything seems dire until a hooded woman approaches Lights and transports her to a place of sunshine and freedom.

“Giants” is the first video from Light’s upcoming fourth studio album Skin & Earth, which is also the title of a comic series Lights has created. Written and illustrated in full by the multi-talented Lights, the first issue of the comic is available now for pre-order, with the digital edition released in May.

The comic series follows En, a woman written as a reflection of Lights, who we assume is the hooded woman in the new music video for “Giants.” The comic series for Skin & Earth is described as the “story of a girl looking for hope in a hopeless world. Caught between romance and cults, gods and mortals, and just trying to find a good borscht, Enaia Jin is lead down a dark path by new lovers that reveal a twisted fantasy world and her own true nature. Set in a post-apocalyptic future where corporations rule, this adventurous tale of loneliness, deceit and self-discovery begins here!”

Each monthly comic book unveiling will coincidence with the arrival of new music, culminating in the release of Skin & Earth when it drops in full this fall.

The new video comes less than a week after Lights returned to the MMVAs to rule the red carpet and present at the annual award show.
