Liam Payne Drops Exciting New Music Announcements During His Brit Awards AMA

Published: February 19, 2018

We’re only two days away from the 2018 Brit Awards, airing Wednesday, February 21 at 10E/7P on Much, and the star-studded show is getting bigger by the moment. Hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall, this year’s line-up of A-list performers includes some of the biggest names in British and international music, including Ed Sheeran, Foo Fighters, Rita Ora, Dua Lipa, Stormzy, Sam Smith, and more.

Nominated for two awards this year, including British Artist Video of the Year and British Single for “Strip That Down,” Liam Payne is set to appear at this year’s show and just announced, he’ll also be making his post-One Direction performance debut. During a Twitter AMA on Monday, Payne revealed his upcoming performance and shared details about his highly anticipated upcoming debut solo album. It’s coming. Sooooon.

Check out what’s in store for Payne’s debut album and don’t miss the 2018 Brit Awards on Wednesday, February 21 at 10E/7P on Much.

He’s performing at the Brit Awards.

Of course, the biggest piece of news from Payne’s AMA came in the form of a question from his “For You” duet partner Rita Ora, who asked if Payne wanted to join her performance at Wednesday’s Brit Awards. No surprise, he said yes.

Liam is about to jump on the Spanish music craze.

When a fan asked about his plans to come to Latin America, the singer said he would be heading there ‘soon’ and that his next single will have something Latin American fans will like. Sounds like someone is going for “Despacito 2.0.”

There will be more collaborations on his upcoming album.

Payne confirmed that his solo album will feature more collabs, or co-labs, as he says. Ed Sheeran worked on the album, along with Charlie Puth and Rita Ora. Payne also mentioned Zedd, so it’s likely that “Get Low” will be on his upcoming record. He also said that he loves collaborating because it reminds him of when he was in a band. Oh yeah, we remember.

He has favourites.

When asked about his favourite solo single so far, Payne chose his lead track “Strip That Down,” since it’s his single that’s been nominated for a Brit Award.

He’s written 40 songs for his new album.

He doesn’t say when we’re finally going to hear his first solo album in full, but did confirm that so far he’s written between 30 to 40 new songs. Payne did say that the record is essentially finished, with a few final touches left.

He’s proud to be nominated against his band mates.

Payne and One Direction bandmate Harry Styles are both up for British Artist Video of the Year, which Payne says he’s proud of. Yeah, but he probably wants to win too, amirite?

Payne is loving Drizzy.

When asked what he’s listening to right now, he listed Drake’s “God’s Plan.” You and the rest of the world, Liam.

Payne’s favourite place to write is his car.

When asked about his creative process, Payne said he’s been working with a number of producers, but his writing style has largely stayed the same. He learned to sing and write in his car and that’s where he still finds the most creative energy.

Louis Tomlinson was the best at prank calls.

We couldn’t go a whole AMA without some 1D love. We always thought Louis was the Bart Simpson of One Direction.
