Kanye West can soon add the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award to his list of prestigious awards. The MTV Video Music Awards announced today that Kanye will be given the award on Sunday, August 30 at the big event.
In a press release, MTV explained that the important prize celebrates Kanye’s “career-spanning groundbreaking videos, legendary VMA performances and continued impact on music, art, fashion and culture.”
In the past, this award has been given to artists such as The Beatles, David Bowie, Madonna, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and, of course, Michael Jackson himself. Last year, Beyoncé took home the honour and marked the occasion with a huge performance including the iconic moment where the pop star triumphantly stood in front of a big sign that read “FEMINIST”. It’s quite the performance to top, but surely Kanye will have something epic in store for fans.
Don’t forget to tune in to the 2015 MTV VMAs this Sunday, August 30 at 9E/6P on MTV and Much!
