Fergie’s Visual Album Is Here: Relive Her 15 Most Dutchess Moments

Published: September 22, 2017

It’s been more than 10 years since singer Fergie dropped her incredible debut solo album The Dutchess, which featured the hits “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Glamorous.” Since then, Fergie has appeared on a number of tracks and reunited with her Black Eyed Peas band members to drop 2009’s The E.N.D. and 2010’s The Beginning.

Although Fergie has never left us for long without a new collaboration or duet, fans have been clamoring for the follow up to The Dutchess for years. Thankfully, good things come to those who wait. Not only has Fergie released her sophomore album Double Dutchess today, she’s also dropped her first visual album, which is set to premiere tonight on Much and MTV Canada.

The new project is the latest achievement from the multi-talented singer, songwriter, dancer, actor and fashion designer. Fergie will soon be adding yet another title to her incredible resume when she becomes a mentor on CTV’s all-new six-part music television series THE LAUNCH, set to premiere in 2018.

Like Beyonce’s Queen Bey moniker and Lilly Singh’s self-described Bawse status, there are many times in Fergie’s incredible career that she’s lived up to her title as a Dutchess, i.e. a badass woman who inspires us every day. To celebrate the release of Fergie’s long-awaited sophomore album and visual album, we’re taking a look at 15 times Fergie lived up to her Dutchess title.

Watch Fergie’s DOUBLE DUTCHESS: SEEING DOUBLE on Much and MTV Canada today, Friday, September 22, at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. The commercial-free, 60-minute special is the eight-time GRAMMY® Award-winner’s first visual album experience, and features songs from her new album, Double Dutchess: Seeing Double including “You Already Know” featuring Nicki Minaj and “Hungry” featuring Rick Ross.

1. Black Eyed Peas’ “Where Is The Love” song and video

Before 2003, Black Eyed Peas were a well-respected hip hop trio, but their status went from underground to world domination thanks to the addition of Fergie and the release of their third studio album, Elephunk. The lead song “Where Is The Love” became the biggest selling single of 2003 and scored two Grammy nominations. Fergie Ferg had arrived.

2. Release of “My Humps”

By 2005, the world had come to know Fergie as part of the supergroup Black Eyed Peas, but with the release of “My Humps,” it was as if we were meeting The Dutchess all over again. Showing off a bravado and confidence fans had yet to see from Fergie, the song about female empowerment became a piece pop culture, with ‘humps’ references reaching every corner of the world. So many lovely lady lumps.

3. Fergie’s success with Wild Orchid

Before joining BEP, Fergie was part of the girl group Wild Orchid. The singer cut her teeth on the road and found her place on stage. Though the stress of the band caught up with Fergie, who dealt with a drug addiction for years, she eventually got clean and managed to hang onto her life and her career before going on to share her struggle with others and help those battling addiction.

4. Kids Incorporated

When we think of today’s pop stars starting out on TV, the first names that come to mind are Britney, Justin and Christina, who all earned Disney dollars on The Mickey Mouse Club. But before that, Fergie was wowing audiences with her incredible vocals and acting chops on Kids Incorporated, which she starred on for six seasons.

5. Charlie Brown and Sally

Fans of that blockhead Charlie Brown may be surprised to know that the voice of little sister Sally was played by child actor Fergie. In the mid-1980s, Fergie was the voice actor for the confident and lovesick Sally, a role that possibly inspired some of the singer’s later work.

6. Debut solo single “London Bridge”

Branching off from a successful band is a risk for any artist, but Fergie approached her solo career with a vengeance and it worked. Her lead single “London Bridge” was number one on the Billboard chart for three weeks and gave fans yet another anthem of self-empowerment and celebration of sexuality. It also stands up as a killer pop song more than a decade later.

7. “Fergalicious” success

There’s only one Fergie (well, at least in pop music), but the singer managed to turn her nickname into a track that all her fans loved. Now that’s Fergalicious.

8. “Big Girls Don’t Cry” ballad

From Wild Orchid to BEP, fans mostly knew Fergie for her high energy pop/hip hop tracks. But with her debut solo album, Fergie earned one of the biggest songs of her career with a beautiful ballad. Plus, A+ casting with Milo Ventimiglia.

9. Serving “M.I.L.F.$” goals

Fergie isn’t the first or the last MILF to release a music video, but she may very well be the coolest. Moms, do you.

10. Nine film

Fergie once again got to combine her talent for singing and acting in the romantic musical Nine, which had her starring alongside acting greats Daniel Day-Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Penélope Cruz, Judi Dench, Kate Hudson, Nicole Kidman, and Sophia Loren.

11. Part owner Miami Dolphins

Some people love to watch sports, but for Fergie, her commitment to football goes much deeper. The singer is a limited owner of the Miami Dolphins—a totally Dutchess move.

12. LOGO award

Thanks to her work helping to raise money to fight HIV/AIDS, Fergie received LOGO’s NewNowNext Award in 2013. Working with amFAR and the MAC AIDS, Fergie said of the award, “I could not be more proud to be honored by LOGO. This award is so incredibly special to me because of the tremendous love and support I have always experienced from the LGBT community. LOGO’s philosophy of acceptance with no barriers and no judgment is a message that we should all live by.”

13. The release of “L.A. Love (La La)”

Fergie wasn’t ready to release her sophomore album in 2014, but that didn’t mean she was going to leave fans hanging without any new music. Instead, the singer dropped the gritty hip hop and dance hall track “L.A. Love (La La)” featuring YG.

14. She has  a time machine?

No, but seriously, what year is it? Watch Fergie’s “You Already Know” with Nicki Minaj and then check out her older work. Can you tell which song was released when? Probably not. The Dutchess comes through with the hits even after a 10-year hiatus.

15. She’s worth the wait

Taking more than a decade to release your sophomore album means that expectations are high and Fergie has no problem meeting them. Not only is the singer dropping Double Dutchess today, she’s also premiering her visual album. Welcome back, Fergie.
