The annual Glastonbury Festival took place this past weekend, attracting thousands of music fans to the town of Somerset in England. The first two days of the festival were capped off by headliners Radiohead and Foo Fighters, with solo singer Ed Sheeran making his first appearance as a headliner to close out the festival on Sunday night.
Enjoying a long history with the festival, Sheeran first played the event back in 2011, where he performed to a crowd of about 500 people at the Croissant Neuf stage. Marking his fourth appearance this weekend, Sheeran made his way to the Pyramid stage as a headliner, but even with his long history with Glastobury and, if we’re being frank, worldwide domination, some people still don’t get Ed.
As usual, Sheeran performed solo on stage for the majority of his set, which included fan favourite tracks “Photograph,” “Thinking Out Loud,” “Take It Back,” “The A-Team” and “Nancy Mulligan,” which included an appearance on stage and backing instruments from the Irish band Beoga.
Aside from the one song, Sheeran commanded the stage on his own, telling the crowd “For those of you who haven’t seen one of my shows before or haven’t heard one of my songs, please pretend that you know them. For those of you who have, please sing all of the words. I’d like to say it was a dream of mine, but I never thought I’d get to the point where I was playing this stage, let alone headlining it.”
While it surprises us that not everyone in the world has seen Sheeran play either on TV, YouTube or IRL, many Glastonbury ticket holders were unfamiliar with Sheeran’s use of a loop pedal.
Concert goers who did not understand Sheeran’s looping to create his backing track while performing began posting on social media that they thought the singer was using a pre-recorded track and not performing live.

In an uncharacteristic move, Sheeran responded to the allegations on his Twitter account.
Never thought I’d have to explain it, but everything I do in my live show is live, it’s a loop station, not a backing track. Please google x
