Coldplay And The Chainsmokers Debut Surprise Collaboration ‘Something Just Like This’

Published: February 22, 2017

The Chainsmokers are known for topping the charts with Halsey, Phoebe Ryan and Daya—and know they’ve added British superstars Coldplay to their list of impressive collaborators.

Surprising fans and viewers during today’s Brit Awards, Coldplay and The Chainsmokers hit the award show stage at the 02 Arena in London to debut their new song “Something Like This.” The Chainsmokers added their trademark pop-EDM foundation to the track, while Coldplay frontman Chris Martin handled all the vocals, giving a high-energy performance that included his usual joyous round of crowd surfing.

Following the performance, Coldplay and The Chainsmokers debuted “Something Like This” online, including a brand new lyric video.

In addition to the surprise performance with The Chainsmokers, Martin also performed earlier in the show in a moving tribute to the late George Michael.

Coldplay were nominated during this year’s Brit Awards for another collaboration, earning a nod for Best British Single thanks to their song “Hymn for the Weekend” featuring Beyoncé.

As for The Chainsmokers, their song “Closer” with singer Halsey has now spent 26 weeks on the Billboard Top 5, more than any song in history.

Did we mention that Coldplay recently celebrated being the most streamed band ever on Spotify? Put these two groups together and yeah, we’re going to be hearing “Something Like This” for a long, long time.

Watch The Brit Awards tonight at 8 p.m. ET on Much to see performances from Coldplay and The Chainsmokers, Ed Sheeran, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Emelie Sande, Little Mix, The 1975, Robbie Williams and Skepta.
