Camila Cabello Reveals She Wrote A Song About ‘Someone Special’

Published: January 17, 2018

Camila Cabello used her debut album Camila, released January 12, to tell her fans about her life over the past year since leaving Fifth Harmony. Initially calling the album The Hurting, The Healing, The Loving, Cabello changed the title to make it more personal, but that doesn’t mean all three emotions aren’t present on the new record.

Speaking this week with Beats 1 Zane Lowe about Camila, Cabello revealed who she wants to work with, what celeb she met at a Grammy party, how it really feels to move on from her former band, and who inspired a song about ‘someone special.’

While speaking to Lowe, Cabello revealed that she’s currently working on a song titled “I Can’t Say Your Name Without Smiling,” admitting that she’s reached the ‘loving’ part of her previous album title. Cabello doesn’t specify who the song is about, but let’s not forget she almost kissed Nick Jonas on New Year’s Eve. Just saying.

As for her new song “In The Dark,” Cabello says she wrote the song after attending last year’s Grammy celebrations.

“The song was kind of making an observation like on the outside looking in about somebody that I met and that I was kind of having this like, you know, this flirtation-ship with and it was like, you know, it was like a famous guy. And I was just kind of noticing how a lot of the times it’s this facade with people that are celebrities and they kind of can’t turn it off like it’s always a performance or it’s, you know what I mean, it’s this mirage,” said Cabello. “And I was just kind of like I don’t really want to fall in love with a name or just because you’re famous or who you are. I just want to, you know I want to get to know the real person.”

While Cabello has spoken about leaving Fifth Harmony in past interviews, the singer is ready to move on to the next chapter of her life.

“Me, my music, and my life are in this like parallel line. You know that’s part of, I mean that is why I changed the title because I was like I’m not really in that place anymore,” said Cabello on The Hurting, The Healing, The Loving. “And I feel like whenever I’m done with an album like this it’s kind of the end of a chapter. And for me the next part is about, you know, collecting memories and experiences for the next thing so it’s actually, it’s nice.”

As for the next batch of new music and a follow-up to Camila, Cabello says that she’s hoping to get into the studio with The 1975’s Matt Healy. “Oh my god I want to work with them so bad,” said Cabello. “I actually I was listening to them in the car the other day and I was like I just want to DM Matt Healy and be like ‘Hey can we work together,’” said Cabello. “I’ve been to two 1975 concerts because I was obsessed with them.”

Prepare for the takeover of Camila Cabello and The 1975.
